Our mission is to give children a space to let their imaginations run wild! Then, to find ways of harnessing their ideas and turning them into forms that can be experienced by all of us. This coming season, we will be focusing on the deep connections between music and the world around us. Kids enjoy a rich and diverse music education, experiencing this art-form each day through a myriad of artistic lenses: visual art, voice, instrumental, theatrical expression or maybe in ways that we haven’t thought of yet! Our professional artist educators in residence will develop collaborative projects with students over the course of the full school year that will culminate into an end-of-the year production to be shared with family, friends and the greater community!
Most importantly, our studio is a place of friendship and collaboration where every voice is invited to sing and every voice is celebrated!
We hope you will join us!
“Music Magic!”
3:30pm – 4:15pm
PK-5
In this class students will learn about all the elements that come together to make music! They will explore concepts such as ear training, rhythm, ensemble playing, and more, in a way that will be playful and yet also establish a deep musical foundation from which they can plant their creative “seeds” for life!
“Music of Art 2-D!”
4:30PM-5:15PM
PK-5
In this class students will study how the development of Music and the development of visual art went hand in hand. They will learn about what was going on in the world socially, politically and environmentally that may have influenced artists, musicians and performers to create great art! We will focus on two dimensional art (ie: drawing, painting, mosaic, textiles, etc). Students will then be introduced to a particular genre of music and then make their own works of art using the techniques of the great masters. For example: Impressionism: Finding the correlation between the paintings of Monet and the music of Debussy.
“Developing Musicality through the Theatre Arts”
3:30pm-4:15pm: 2-5
4:30pm -5:15pm: PK-1
In this class students will explore the music found within language and movement. “Timing,” on stage is something that is mastered by understanding the unsung rhythm and melodies within the telling of a story. Great theatre is achieved when all players work in concert with each other to create a phenomenal symphony of emotion and drama!
“Children’s Chorus”
3:30pm – 4:15pm
2-5
In this class children will be working with performing artists in residence with Hudson Opera Theatre to learn the art of singing together! Music selections will range from popular children’s songs to children’s choruses directly out of the operatic repertoire as well as original compositions. Children will learn the basics of healthy vocal technique, reading music, harmony, as well as singing in a variety of different languages.
“Welcome to the Opera!”
4:30PM-5:15PM
PK-5
In this class artists in residence with the Hudson Opera Theatre will work with students to introduce them to, “What is opera?” Over the course of the year, students will be immersed in the elements and combinations of both the emotion and creativity that it takes to create an opera. The course will culminate in students creating their own production, performing side by side with professional opera singers and musicians from the Hudson Opera Theatre!
“Jump & Jam!”
3:30pm – 4:15pm
PK-5
In this class students will work together as a band/ensemble using a variety of instruments (guitars included!) to explore music from a massive variety of styles and cultures. Imagine everything from classical Indian Ragas to Rock and Roll!
“Musical StoryTime and Composition”
4:30pm-5:15pm
PK-1
In this class students will begin to learn how music is built, what inspires it to be built and what are the techniques and tools used to build it. A composer should never be limited to any one musical “language,” so the goal of this class will also be to expose students to as many different sounds and techniques as possible; to give them a broad and colorful palette from which to create their own musical masterpieces.

“Sing Out for Peace!”

In this class students will learn the music and stories of musical heroes such as Pete Seeger and Ella Jenkins, among others, who used the power of music to bring people together, raise awareness about protecting our planet and countless other social issues. These heroes valued the voices and power of children to bring about change in our world, and we hope through this class that students will learn to recognize their power and use their voices to do great things!
