WORLD MUSIC Improv & Composition! (Grades 3-6)- In this class students will be introduced to the basics of composition and improvisation while learning about different cultures and musical forms from around the world. From the pentatonic scales of China to the bossa nova of Brazil!
Art Exploration: In this class students will have an opportunity to explore a variety of materials in a relaxed setting, gently guided by our teaching artists. The concept is to allow students the time and freedom to discover their own new and creative ways of manipulating a variety of both common and unique materials.
The Art of the MASK! (Grades 3-6)– In this extended art class students will learn about the evolution of the mask and its place in traditions from around the world. We will use all different types of materials in this course in order to study the great many techniques used to create masks for all different purposes: from conjuring spirits to the Peking Opera!
GUITAR ENSEMBLE(Grades 3-6)This group class is to be taken in conjunction with 30 or 45 minute private lessons. This class is the first step into the world of Chamber Music! Students will work on multi-part ensembles, learn about music history, different genres of music and most importantly, learn to work as a musical team!
Small group Art Technique(Grades 3-6) During this class students will be divided into small groups where they will focus on learning specific skills, techniques and about different materials that will help them to excel in the work that we will be doing on other days in the program and for life!
MUSIC of ART (Grades 3-6)- In this extended art class students will study how the development of Music and the development of visual art went hand in hand. They will learn about what was going on in the world socially, politically and environmentally that may have influenced artists, musicians and performers to create great art! We will focus on both two & three dimensional art (ie: drawing, painting, mosaic,textiles,sculpture, architecture etc). Students will then be introduced to a particular genre of music and then make their own works of art using the techniques of the great masters. For example: Impressionism: Finding the correlation between the paintings of Monet and the music of Debussy or between the sculptures of Louise Nevelson and the music of the Bebop Jazz period.
